Here’s an update from our volunteer Lorraine, about an event at Riseholme College they recently attended:
“Today, we spoke to approximately 200 people, and handed out almost 1000 pieces of informative literature and promotional material.
It was a busy and very worthwhile day. We found the students to be generally more serious and interested in our information than other student events we had attended before. Murray and I spoke and gave out leaflets to 201 people, including Carol White the Learning Support Co-ordinator, a couple of teachers/lecturers and most of the other stallholders, we also left a selection of our leaflets for display in the College Reception area.
Some of the stories we heard from people that day were:
- One girl told us her mother had been treated for cervical cancer. She took a number of cervical cancer leaflets in addition to the other cancer information we gave her.
- Another girl told us her uncle was being treated for bowel cancer and she took bowel cancer information as well as Boobs/Balls etc.
- We spoke to an animal welfare teacher who was very interested in our stall and gave her various leaflets for her to display in her working area.
- We spoke to quite a number of students who smoked. Between us we gave them each a pack of relevant cancer information (Non-Smoking, Lung, Mouth, Oesophageal, Gullet etc.) so they would be aware of the possible consequences of smoking.”
Thank you Lorraine and Murray for all of your hard work!
